Strength born of unity
We are an İzmir-based international civil society organisation that brings together the associations, federations and foundations founded by people from Konya in Türkiye and abroad.
Who we are
The Confederation brings together associations, federations and foundations of people from Konya across Türkiye and abroad. Its roots lie in the Aegean Region Konyalılar Association, founded in 1985, and the Konyalılar Culture and Mutual Aid Foundation (KONVAK), founded in İzmir in 1996; the Confederation has since taken KONVAK’s place. After a 2019 meeting in Antalya with association presidents from 11 provinces, associations and foundations from 10 provinces decided in Beyşehir on 27 June 2022 to form a confederation.
What we do
We keep heritage alive: our annual Rumi commemoration is one of İzmir’s longest-running Şeb-i Arus gatherings. We create projects: under İSTÖP we run women’s, youth and agriculture projects backed by embassies and the Islamic Development Bank. We strengthen solidarity: aid for families in need, healthcare discounts and scholarships for members.
Our approach
“Our approach is cooperation and joining forces.” A good civil society organisation questions rather than accuses, and helps local leaders with workable solutions. We want to be judged by the problems we solve through projects, not by statements.
Our mission
To bring people from Konya living in Türkiye and around the world, and the organisations they have founded, under one roof; to keep Konya’s culture and Rumi’s tolerance alive, and to grow solidarity through practical projects.

To be a respected international civil society confederation, reaching from İzmir to Türkiye, the Balkans and the world, and known for its projects rather than its words.

One roof, three separate organisations
The Confederation and the organisations it works with are each separate bodies, with their own management and their own field of work.
International Konyalılar Confederation
The umbrella body. It has taken the place of KONVAK, active in İzmir since 1996, and represents federations, associations and foundations.
FederationFederation of Konyalılar Associations
Founded in İzmir in 2005. Brings together village, district and provincial associations of people from Konya.
İzmir Civil Society Organisations Platform
Runs the Gulf Meeting for the Bay of İzmir with İZDENİZ and works on solutions with its Science Board of scientists.
The 21st century is the century of democracy, human rights, globalisation and of civil society having a voice in governance. Institutions that ignore these values fall behind.
The voice of a single association, foundation or federation is often not heard enough. That is why we brought associations, foundations, federations and platforms together in İzmir, and why we are now growing that experience under the International Konyalılar Confederation.
In mature democracies, civil society is judged not by its political statements but by its success in solving local problems through projects. With boards of architects, engineers, lawyers, scientists and economists, we prepare reports, implementation projects and feasibility studies.
A good civil society organisation should question rather than accuse, and contribute to sound decisions by offering solutions. Our door is open to everyone who wants to work with us on this path.

21.yüzyıl ekonomik, siyasi ve sosyal yönleriyle geride bıraktığımız yüzyıldan çok daha farklı kavram ve oluşumları da beraberinde getirmiştir. Bu kavramlar demokrasi, insan hakları, küreselleşme ve sivil toplum örgütlerinin yönetimlerde yer alma kavramlarıdır. Bu kavramların her biri hiç kuşkusuz 21. yüzyılın değerlerini temsil eden ve kamuoyu tarafından yoğun biçimde talep edilecek kavramlar olacaktır. Dolayısıyla 21. yüzyılın bu kavramlarıjna karşı duyarsız kalan siyasi, kamu ve özel sektör kuruluşları hem çağın gerisinde kalacaklar hem de başarısızlığa mahkum olacaklardır.
21. yüzyıl aynı zamanda yeni değerleri ve yeni gerçekleri de beraberinde getirmiştir. Global çağ olarak adlandırılıan bu yüzyıl yeni ideallerin de çağı olacaktır.
Yeni çağda global değerleri ve gerçekleri tanımak; sosyal, ekonomik ve siyasal düzeni bu yeni değerler üzerine inşa etmek gerekmektedir.
Çağdaş anlamda örgütsel yapısı batılı demokrasilere göre kurulan platform kelimesini de ilk defa yasallaştırarak literatüre geçiren İzmir’in ilk sivil toplum örgütü İzmir Sivil Toplum Örgütleri Platformu-İSTÖP’tür.
Tek derneğin, tek vakfın, tek federasyonun kamuyounda ses getirmediği düşünülerek dernek, vakıf, ocak, sendika, federasyon ve çeşitli platformlar birleştirilmiş ve İSTÖP oluşturulmuştur.
Batılı demokrasilerde sivil toplum örgütleri siyasi demeçleriyle değil, hatta siyasi tercihleriyle değil, bulundukları yerin sorunlarını proje bazında çözmedeki başarılarıyla değerlendirilirler.
Yine İSTÖP, ilk kez bünyesinde, batılı sivil toplum örgütlerinde olduğu gibi “Bilim ve Danışma Kurulu”nu kurmuştur. Bu kurulda 150’ye yakın mimar, mühendis, avukat, bilim adamı, ekonomist, askeri ve sivil üst düzey bürokrat yer almıştır. Bunlar projenin niteliğine göre proje grupları oluşturarak raporlar ve tatbikat projeleri, fizibilite etütleri üreterek ilgili mercilere göndermişlerdir.
Çağdaş, batılı anlamdaki sivil toplum örgütleri suçlayıcı değil; sorgulayıcı ve yerel sorunların çözümünü proje bazında gerçekleştirip yerel yöneticilere sunan ve onların doğru kararı almalarında yardımcı olan kuruluşlardır.
