16,000 TL for Yeşilay and the Mehmetçik Foundation

Each month, the board of the İzmir Konyalılar Culture and Mutual Aid Foundation invites accomplished bureaucrats from Konya living in İzmir to meet its members. This month’s event was attended by Prof. Dr Dilek Takımcı, President of the Yeşilay (Green Crescent) branch, and Bekir Şahiner, a lawyer retired from the office of the Deputy Chief Public Prosecutor, who introduced their work to the foundation’s board members. Şahiner presented his book “Suçun Ensesinde Yargı” (Justice on the Heels of Crime) to his fellow Konyalılar and asked that donations be made to charities in return. In total, 16,000 lira was raised for Yeşilay and the Mehmetçik Foundation in return for 16 books.
Prof. Dr Dilek Takımcı, President of the Yeşilay İzmir Branch, spoke to her fellow Konyalılar about the importance of donating to Yeşilay. “Since addiction has become a problem that can no longer be ignored today, building a culture of giving to Yeşilay, which has fought addiction for a century, has become a social responsibility for individuals and institutions alike. For this reason, all cash donations to Yeşilay and the Yeşilay İzmir branch are deductible from the annual income and corporate tax base. Citizens can support us by texting YEŞİLAY35 to 2423 or by donating to the İzmir branch’s Halkbank IBAN account.
As the İzmir Branch, we believe in the importance of pursuing our fight against addiction, a scourge on society, with determination. I call on all institutions and organisations in our city to support our fight. If we stand together, we can succeed,” she said.
Mehmet Aydoğan, Chairman of the Board of the İzmir Konyalılar Culture and Mutual Aid Foundation, said: “As Konyalılar living in İzmir, we hold social events every month to strengthen our unity, togetherness and solidarity. Alongside various projects and activities to keep our culture, customs and traditions alive, we value hearing about current issues from experts and keeping our members informed. Especially now that technology addiction has reached every home, supporting Yeşilay has become very important.”
